No accidents after explosion reported close to U.S. Embassy in Norway, native police say

Norwegian police reported on Sunday an explosion close to the U.S. Embassy within the capital Oslo, however mentioned there have been no casualties.

The explosion occurred round 1 a.m. native time, Oslo police mentioned in an announcement, including they’d no details about the blast’s trigger or who was behind it.

“A loud bang/explosion was reported on the scene,” Oslo police mentioned. 

Investigators have been analyzing the scene, whereas canine, drones, and helicopters have been concerned within the search “for a number of potential perpetrators,” police mentioned.    

Public broadcaster NRK quoted police incident commander Michael Dellemyr saying the blast hit the doorway of the embassy’s consular part.

“At round 1 a.m. we obtained a number of reviews of an explosion. We arrived shortly afterward and confirmed that there had been an explosion that hit the US embassy,” he instructed NRK. “…There may be minor harm.” 

Dellemyr instructed Oslo’s TV2 police would “not touch upon something associated to the kind of harm, what it’s that has exploded and related particulars, past the truth that there was an explosion” as a result of “it is vitally early within the investigation.”

He later instructed TV2 that police “have an concept of the trigger,” including that “it seems to us that that is an act carried out by somebody.”

He mentioned investigators have been speaking to witnesses, and TV2 reported {that a} bomb squad was on the scene.

Police mentioned they have been in touch with the embassy in regards to the incident and that a lot of assets have been on web site.

“The police are in dialogue with the embassy and no accidents have been reported,” police added.

Residents close to the embassy mentioned they heard a loud blast. A 16-year-old recognized solely as Edvard instructed TV2 that he was watching tv when he heard it.
