To the editor: Whether or not Jonathan Rinderknecht began a hearth on New Yr’s Eve is up for debate (“Mistrial declared in Palisades fireplace arson case, a shocking blow to U.S. prosecutors,” June 26).
What’s not up for debate is the ineptitude of the Los Angeles Fireplace Division for not seeing that the Lachman fireplace was actually extinguished. In accordance with many articles within the Los Angeles Instances, the hearth wasn’t out, as evidenced by textual content messages despatched by firefighters on the scene. However they had been advised by their commanding officers to “roll up the hoses” and depart. The actions of the LAFD had been in the end the reason for that fireplace that killed 12 folks and destroyed hundreds of houses.
And but, there was no accountability for these accountable. The girl who was in command of the LAFD on the time was not faraway from the division, merely demoted, that means she may nonetheless be eligible for a beneficiant LAFD pension.
It’s all the time superb to me how poorly this metropolis, county and state are run. Silly selections and selections with no accountability.
