The 1-54 Modern African Artwork Truthful, which was based in London in 2013 and has since expanded with satellite tv for pc editions in Marrakech and New York, introduced 35 exhibitors for its subsequent version within the British capital this fall.
Scheduled for October 15–18 at Somerset Home, alongside Frieze London and Frieze Masters, the truthful will function a give attention to African modernists by curated cubicles and a 1-54 Presents’ highlight exhibition titled “West Wind,” curated by the South African–Portuguese artwork historian Nancy Dantas. “Impressed by the 1966 track and epithet for African unity,” a press launch reads, “the exhibition brings collectively the work of pioneering trendy artists from throughout Africa.”
Touria El Glaoui, who based the truthful and serves as its director, advised ARTnews, “Somerset Home gave 1-54 its first stage in 2013. For our 14th London version, we’re turning our consideration to the modernists whose work helped form the histories we interact with immediately. Bringing them into dialog with modern artists offers us a fuller and extra correct account of African artwork.”
