Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is skeptical about many issues the Trump administration is saying about de-escalating its immigration crackdown in his state.
“I do know who I am coping with. I do know that they are not going to maintain their phrase,” Walz tells NPR.
Walz, a Democrat, sat down with All Issues Thought of host Juana Summers on Friday following weeks of protests and the lethal shootings of Renee Macklin Good and Alex Pretti.
Walz says he nonetheless desires to “discover a method ahead”– with a caveat.
“I am not going to compromise on the First Modification. I am not going to permit [Trump administration border czar] Tom Homan to characterize what are constitutionally protected rights of peaceable expression of grievance towards the federal government. It is foundational to our democracy.”
