Mexico Metropolis, Mexico — Officers mentioned a practice accident in southern Mexico killed not less than 13 individuals and injured dozens, halting visitors alongside a rail line connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Gulf of Mexico.
The Interoceanic Practice linking the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz went off the rails Sunday because it handed a curve close to the city of Nizanda.
“The Mexican Navy has knowledgeable me that, tragically, 13 individuals died within the Interoceanic Practice accident,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum posted on X, including that 98 individuals have been injured, 5 of them significantly.

She mentioned she instructed the secretary of the navy and the undersecretary of human rights of the Ministry of the Inside to journey to the positioning and personally help the households.
In a message on X Sunday, Oaxaca state Gov. Salomon Jara mentioned a number of authorities businesses had reached the accident website to help the injured.
Officers mentioned 241 passengers and 9 crew members have been on the practice when the accident occurred.
The Interoceanic Practice was inaugurated in 2023 by then President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. The rail service is a part of a broader push to spice up practice journey in southern Mexico and develop infrastructure alongside the isthmus of Tehuantepec, a slim stretch of land between the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

The Mexican authorities plans to show the isthmus right into a strategic hall for worldwide commerce, with ports and rail strains that may join the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The Interoceanic practice at the moment runs from the port of Salina Cruz on the Pacific Ocean to Coatzacoalcos, masking a distance of roughly 180 miles.
