To the editor: Excuse me, however are we ignoring the elephant within the room? This op-ed (“No navy technique can cease Mexico’s cartels,” Aug. 26) by no means mentions that the US is the world’s No. 1 shopper of illicit medication. Utilizing navy pressure to fight drug cartels is kind of a determined enterprise that may do little in coping with the foundation causes of the drug drawback within the U.S.: stress, financial insecurity, poverty and psychological well being points. And with our present state of uncertainty, the issue might be going to worsen. We have to create stronger preventive measures to actually scale back our epidemic dependency. The previous saying goes: “So long as there’s a demand, there’ll all the time be a provide.” Let’s rid ourselves of the demand.
