To the editor: If we’re to have significant immigration reform, which hasn’t occurred for practically 40 years, each side of the aisle should take part (“Democrats, enjoying protection on immigration, see a flicker of hope in new polls,” July 17). Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida has launched a invoice referred to as the Dignity Act of 2025, which supplies authorized standing to undocumented migrants who meet sure necessities, haven’t any severe legal document, pay restitution and provides 1% of their earnings to the U.S. authorities.

As Washington bureau chief Michael Wilner notes, Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona can also be engaged on immigration reform. He’s a centrist Democrat and has a proposal titled “Securing the Border and Fueling Financial Prosperity.” His plan requires important border safety enhancements in addition to a rise in visa and inexperienced card alternatives and pathways to citizenship.

People from each events might help immigration reform that’s humane and economically smart. We now have two lawmakers from totally different political ideologies who’ve the chance to work collectively and get their colleagues on board on the best way to creating America a greater place to stay, and to create a extra hopeful future for our kids.
