To the editor: Wow, front-page press on dependancy and psychological well being (“Reiner household tragedy sheds gentle on ache of households grappling with dependancy,” Dec. 17). I’m impressed. Thanks, Los Angeles Occasions, for shedding gentle on what’s a silent killer for households throughout America.
My grandmother lived in state psychological hospitals in Camarillo and Norwalk. My father is a drug addict with psychological sickness, my sister is a drug addict with psychological sickness and the cycle continued. I’ve seen a decline in providers during the last 40 years, beginning with President Reagan within the ‘80s. It’s what contributes to a lot of our homeless inhabitants. Households change into exhausted and run out of choices.
We endure alone, we give our lives.
Let’s cease ignoring the issue that hundreds of thousands of households need assistance with by creating high quality rehab applications and providers and funding analysis for this complicated illness.

To the editor: The Reiner household tragedy highlights the truth that method too many American households are coping with the endless scourge of dependancy, whether or not it entails medicine or alcohol. Our so-called “struggle on medicine” has been an abysmal failure for a bunch of causes.
One has to surprise what our nation would appear to be if we have been to commit anti-drug-trafficking assets to really unraveling the corrosive internet of destruction created by alcohol/drug dependancy. Think about if we, as a society, have been to commit ourselves to eradicating drug and alcohol abuse and dependancy as now we have most cancers, infectious illnesses and tobacco? Placing cash and assets towards constructing rehab facilities, rising analysis on progressive drug dependancy remedy and hiring extra psychological well being rehab professionals. That is perhaps a way more efficient method than our present technique.
