To the editor: As questions on management in Los Angeles sports activities establishments flow into, it’s value recalling the instance set by Peter V. Ueberroth, who served as president of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee for the 1984 Summer season Olympic Video games. In overseeing these Video games, he made clear the place his priorities lay, saying, “The integrity of the sport is all the things.” And due to his integrity and management, Ueberroth took workplace as commissioner of Main League Baseball later that very same yr.
Measured in opposition to that normal, one is left to contemplate what Ueberroth might need finished beneath circumstances much like these now going through Casey Wasserman (“Is Casey Wasserman too large to fail as LA28 Olympics chief?,” Feb. 12). Given how central public belief was to Ueberroth’s management, it appears doubtless he would have thought of stepping apart, if mandatory, to guard the credibility of the group he served, as a part of that duty.
At a time when confidence in public management stays fragile, Ueberroth’s instance is a reminder that accountability and moral stewardship nonetheless matter.
