To the editor: On this season of harvesting, feasting and giving thanks, I need to thank employees author Brittny Mejia for her highly effective article concerning the legions of people that hold us properly fed, day after day, yr after yr (“Onerous lives in California’s fields: ‘The American dream eats us alive,’” Nov. 30). I’m reminded of the opening line of Charles Bukowski’s poem “the meek have inherited.” It begins, “If I endure at this typewriter / assume how I’d really feel among the many lettuce-pickers of Salinas?”
