I used to imagine "closed" primaries have been a necessary ingredient of the two-party system. Main elections exist for every of our two main political events to hold their get together banner and assist the get together platform within the common election. It made sense to require these collaborating in these elections to no less than be registered as Democratic or Republican voters. Those that declined to take action, referred to as "unbiased" or "non-aligned" voters, can look ahead to the overall election.
