Charli XCX goes from pop star to film star with a string of movies, together with the queer fantasy 100 Nights of Hero, the mockumentary The Second, and the sapphic romantic drama Erupcja.
Charli XCX co-wrote the script for Erupcja with director Pete Ohs and co-star Lena Góra. Set in Warsaw, the movie focuses on two ladies, a neighborhood florist named Nel (Góra) and a vacationer named Bethany (XCX), who has repeatedly crashed her love life. However this time, Bethany’s introduced her present boyfriend Rob (Will Madden), who’s in search of the proper second to suggest.
In my assessment out of the movie’s premiere on the Toronto Worldwide Movie Pageant, which is quoted within the above trailer, I cheered: “Shot with the kinetic but poised cool of the French New Wave, this Polish manufacturing feels timeless. Its scenes play out with sufficient specificity for audiences to hook in, however sufficient ambiguity that they’ll really feel like a dream. There is a contact of fairy story to that. Ohs retains his characters curious and fluid, refusing to shove them into easy-to-define roles of hero and villain. As a substitute, Erupcja embraces the feral nature of affection, messy and wondrous…. Erupcja is a thundering rumble of drama and romance, leaving its viewers excited and rattled.”
Erupcja opens in theaters April 17.
