U.S. and Canadian airways canceled flights Sunday to components of Mexico after Mexican officers stated drug lord Nemesio Oseguera, referred to as “El Mencho,” was killed in a navy operation, triggering reported clashes in Jalisco state and prompting journey advisories.

United Airways canceled all Sunday flights to Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara.

“United Airways flight operations to/from PVR (Puerto Vallarta) and GDL (Guadalajara) are canceled as we speak,” United Airways stated in an announcement to FOX Enterprise.

Southwest Airways additionally canceled all flights arriving in and departing from Puerto Vallarta on Sunday.

“Southwest Airways canceled the 4 flights we had scheduled to fly into Puerto Vallarta as we speak and the 4 turns again,” the airline stated in an announcement to FOX Enterprise. “We’ll proceed to judge the situations because the scenario develops. Nothing is extra vital to Southwest Airways than the protection of our prospects and our workers.”

American Airways stated it halted its remaining Sunday service to Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Mazatlán.

“On account of the scenario in Guadalajara (GDL), Mazatlán (MZT) and Puerto Vallarta (PVR), American has canceled flights to and from GDL, MZT and PVR for the rest of Sunday, Feb. 22,” the airline stated in an announcement to FOX Enterprise. “We are going to proceed to observe the scenario and make any extra adjustments to our operation as essential to make sure the protection and safety of our prospects and workforce members.”

Delta Air Strains introduced in a journey alert that flights “to, via or from” Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara “could also be affected” because of “civil unrest within the state of Jalisco.”

Air Canada stated it has briefly suspended operations in Puerto Vallarta.

“Air Canada flights to and from PVR might be canceled tomorrow,” the airline wrote on X. “We’re monitoring the scenario and are working to carry our prospects again as quickly as it’s secure to take action.”

No extra cancellations had been introduced past Sunday as of publication.

A number of airways stated they issued journey waivers permitting affected passengers to rebook with out change charges.

The flight adjustments come after Mexican troops reportedly carried out operations earlier Sunday in Tapalpa, Jalisco, focusing on El Mencho, a former police officer who grew to become the chief of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, which US authorities have recognized as a significant provider of fentanyl to america.

Authorities officers warned of clashes in Jalisco and broader legal exercise, prompting the U.S. Embassy in Mexico to problem shelter-in-place advisories for a number of states.

El Mencho carried a $15 million U.S. bounty and rose to energy following the arrest of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, the previous head of the Sinaloa Cartel. The Mexican Protection Division stated the operation was carried out as a part of bilateral coordination and cooperation with the U.S., and that U.S. authorities offered complementary intelligence that contributed to El Mencho’s killing.
