Till April 10, the overall tenor of California’s contest to find out a successor to two-term governor Gavin Newsom had been low-key, even a bit sleepy. A big however removed from star-studded discipline of eight Democrats and two Republicans had been slogging towards the June 3 nonpartisan top-two major with no clear front-runner and all types of situations showing potential, together with a partisan "lockout" wherein two members from one social gathering (even the very unpopular GOP) may take each general-election spots.
