4 astronauts on NASA’s Artemis 2 mission are returning to Earth after shattering the report for the farthest distance any people have traveled from the planet.

Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen hit 252,756 miles from Earth throughout their lunar flyby on April 6, eclipsing the Apollo 13 mark set in 1970.

Splashdown Timeline

Orion spacecraft will splash down within the Pacific Ocean off San Diego at 1:07 a.m. BST on Saturday, April 11 (8:07 p.m. EDT Friday, April 10). Launched April 1, the 10-day mission covers about 695,000 miles whole.

On day 10, Orion separates from its service module and re-enters at 25,000 mph, marking the quickest crewed re-entry. Parachutes deploy to gradual descent earlier than ocean impression.

Crew Restoration Course of

Helicopters from restoration groups extract the astronauts post-splashdown, flying them to the USS John P. Murtha. The Navy ship departed Naval Base San Diego on April 6 for the positioning.
