To the editor: I like Steve Lopez’s columns, however I quibble with “Mr. Downtown” and with the beloved Los Angeles Instances journalist urging Mayor Karen Bass (and the remainder of the federal government and the enterprise sector at giant) to deliver individuals again to the workplace (“After COVID, raids and different blows, DTLA is hurting. However ‘Mr. Downtown’ believes it can rise once more,” March 28).
Suppose: greenhouse gasoline emissions, site visitors, lack of work-life stability, viruses swarming as individuals go to work sick, a colossal waste of time to commute. Nope! Staying at residence for many who can is the optimum resolution to an ideal many societal ills and the local weather disaster.
Too many in authorities and enterprise really feel this strain to return staff to the workplace and, to me, that is like selecting to step again into Los Angeles’ smog-filled historical past.
Eating places can open fewer days per week. Shuttered websites could be transformed to housing. The very final thing we’d like is to pressure individuals again on the freeways.
