Common Motors Canada invests $63 million to improve stamping operations at its Oshawa Meeting plant. This funding helps preparations for producing the subsequent era of gas-powered full-size pickups and strengthens capabilities within the service components enterprise.

Strategic Significance of the Oshawa Facility

“This extra funding underscores Oshawa’s significance in GM’s full-size truck portfolio,” states Jack Uppal, president and managing director of GM Canada. “With a protracted historical past of constructing vehicles in Canada, the gifted group at Oshawa Meeting will proceed to play a vital position for years to come back in delivering the pickups our prospects know and belief.”

Current Layoffs and Manufacturing Shifts

The announcement follows a January choice to chop one among three shifts on the plant, probably resulting in 1,200 job losses throughout the provision chain. GM shifts some manufacturing from Oshawa to Indiana amid these adjustments.
