American Woman is marking its fortieth anniversary with a daring redesign of its beloved historic dolls, prompting swift backlash on social media.

The Mattel-owned model introduced Wednesday the launch of its new “Fashionable Period Assortment,” reimagining six of its most iconic characters with modern outfits and a smaller 14.5-inch body, down from the model’s conventional 18-inch dolls, in accordance with a information launch from Mattel.
