To the editor: I select to not stay in a high-fire-risk space, so why ought to I pay extra in gross sales tax for many who do (“L.A. firefighters suggest hike in gross sales tax to pay for brand new stations, tools and extra,” Nov. 21)? If extra money is required to assist our fireplace division, the burden shouldn’t fall on those that have sufficient sense to stay in a safer place.
The town permits houses to be inbuilt hillside areas — supposedly to fulfill the housing demand, but additionally to gather extra property taxes, which I believe is the first cause. If a home-owner needs an excellent view (or no matter different causes they discover a fire-prone hillside space fascinating), then I believe the price needs to be solely on them and never the remainder of the inhabitants.
