South American airways Gol out of Brazil and Colombia’s Avianca additionally canceled their Caracas flights Saturday.

Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority stated in a press release there have been “potential dangers” in persevering with to fly to the Maiquetia space of Venezuela, close to Caracas.

The FAA urged airways to “train warning” within the area as tensions have escalated between the U.S. and Venezuela and the U.S. has elevated its army presence within the area.

“Operators are suggested to train warning when working within the Maiquetia flight data area in any respect altitudes because of the worsening safety scenario and heightened army exercise in or round Venezuela,” the FAA advisory stated. 

“Threats might pose a possible danger to plane in any respect altitudes, together with throughout overflight, the arrival and departure phases of flight and/or airports and plane on the bottom,” it added. It requested airways to offer a minimum of 72-hour advance discover to the FAA in the event that they plan to fly by the world.

Direct flights from U.S. passenger and cargo carriers to Venezuela have been suspended since 2019, however some airways nonetheless fly over the nation on their South American routes, in accordance to Reuters.
