A U.S. legal professional’s workplace in Albany will defend the Trump administration in a lawsuit introduced by fired prosecutor Maurene Comey, after her former workplace in Manhattan recused itself from the case.

Maurene Comey is suing the Justice Division, alleging that her sudden firing in July was unlawful and “politically motivated” given her father James Comey’s longstanding criticism of President Trump, who fired the older Comey as FBI director in 2017. 

On Thursday, a lawyer from the U.S. legal professional’s workplace within the Northern District of New York knowledgeable a federal choose she would signify the Justice Division within the lawsuit, in response to a courtroom doc — marking the primary formal look by an legal professional for the federal government for the reason that case was filed in September.

The lawyer, Karen Folster Lesperance, defined in a letter that the Northern District — situated in Albany — agreed to tackle the case final month due to the Manhattan-based Southern District’s recusal. She requested for an extension of subsequent week’s deadline to reply to the case, which she stated Maurene Comey’s attorneys had agreed to.

The letter does not specify why the U.S. legal professional’s workplace for the Southern District of New York recused itself. However Maurene Comey had served as a prosecutor in that workplace for years, engaged on the high-profile prosecutions of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Her father additionally led the workplace within the early 2000s.
