To the editor: After she was groped in public, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated, “In the event that they do that to the president, what should occur to all of the younger ladies within the nation?” Certainly, and it’s not simply in Mexico and it’s not simply younger ladies; it’s ladies and older ladies internationally, too (“Mexico’s president was groped on the road. Now she’s waging a warfare in opposition to rampant sexual harassment,” Nov. 5).
What must occur is a multi-pronged strategy to ending this sort of violence globally. Prevention packages needs to be delivered to all boys in grade faculty by way of highschool, in addition to implementing current legal guidelines in opposition to the perpetrators.
The White Ribbon Marketing campaign, developed in Canada, supplies a framework for instructing boys about supporting ladies’s and ladies’ rights, and needs to be a part of the varsity curriculum each right here and in Mexico.
MIA, Mujeres Iniciando en Las Americas is a California-based nonprofit group that gives schooling based mostly on the White Ribbon Marketing campaign. It reaches out to elementary colleges, center colleges and universities in Guatemala to assist stem the tide of sexual violence in opposition to ladies there. These are the sorts of packages we have to see broaden throughout Mexico, the U.S. and all over the world.

To the editor: It’s terrifying to suppose that even essentially the most highly effective lady in Mexico would expertise what many ladies face of their lives in coping with sexual harassment. You’d suppose that that presence of president-level safety and witnesses would stop any undesirable sexual advances.
The fact is that girls expertise sexual harassment and assault on a regular basis. How is it that no lady is exempt from the chance of being sexually harassed?
Extra insurance policies should be enacted that place larger repercussions on the perpetrators of sexual harassment. If aggressors see a possible danger, they are going to be extra inclined to cease. Plus, larger criminalization of sexual harassment will take away from the normalization of the conduct.
Specializing in shifting the conduct of the aggressor, slightly than discovering methods for girls to defend themselves, will assist set up new norms for a greater and safer future.
