To the editor: If Zoe Rosenberg achieved her mission of releasing each poultry rooster from captivity, she would fail at her objective of constructing “each animal … secure and completely satisfied, free” (“An animal rights activist stated she ‘rescued’ chickens. A jury convicted her of conspiracy,” Oct. 30). What Rosenberg and vigilantes like her fail to know is that the species Gallus gallus domesticus exists solely because of human husbandry and agriculture. These extremely inbred animals are fully incapable of residing within the wild. They’re unable to feed themselves or shield themselves from all method of predators. If these activists achieved their objective, the species would rapidly go extinct.
Then again, because it stands, from an evolutionary standpoint, the poultry rooster is likely one of the most profitable species on the planet. So long as people proceed to farm and eat Gallus gallus domesticus, its survival as a species is as safe as our personal.
If animal rights activists wish to assist animals be “completely satisfied” and “free,” they need to refocus their consideration to defending wild endangered species. In the true world, there is no such thing as a such factor as security; there’s solely survival of the fittest. However a minimum of with these animals, there’s a theoretical risk that they could be completely satisfied and free.
