To the editor: I didn’t feign illness to get out of labor and attend a parade (“The Sports activities Report: L.A. seems to assist the Dodgers, who discuss a three-peat,” Nov. 4). However I watched protection of the Dodgers’ victory lap and I noticed what I noticed at Dodger Stadium all through the season: Latinos, Asian Individuals and others talking the widespread language of baseball. However as an alternative of consuming peanuts and Cracker Jack, they’re washing down takoyaki with micheladas.
Baseball wasn’t at all times so joyful. In 2017, an Astros participant known as Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish “chinito” and used his fingers to tug on the corners of his personal eyes, forcing me to revisit the childhood trauma that’s painfully widespread amongst Asian Individuals. The wound was notably salty as a result of Houston received the World Sequence and was later discovered to have cheated.
Racism remains to be alive. L.A. remains to be affected by local weather disasters, Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and inadequate SNAP advantages. However for a second after the parade, when a packed stadium erupted as MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto shouted “buenas tardes,” it felt like every little thing was going to be OK.

To the editor: What a beautiful celebration for the Dodgers and Los Angeles — proudly one of the vital various cities in the US (“‘Again-to-back, child!’ Los Angeles Dodgers’ victory parade fills downtown with followers,” Nov. 3)! The power of each rests on the generations of people that have come right here from international locations all over the world and made it dwelling.
Given the horrible issues the present administration in Washington is doing to punish L.A., California and the 1000’s of people that don’t have the means to struggle towards authoritarianism, let’s hope that Mark Walter and the Dodgers’ administration do the best factor this 12 months and switch down any invites coming from the White Home.
