The disgraced musician – who was serving a 29-year sentence for a string of kid intercourse offences – was attacked at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Saturday (11.10.25) morning.
Police and paramedics have been referred to as to the jail after the paedophile singer was reportedly ambushed and fatally injured after a knife assault.
Watkins was pronounced lifeless on the scene and a homicide investigation has been launched.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police stated: “At 9.39am this morning, police have been referred to as by workers at HMP Wakefield reporting an assault on a prisoner. Emergency companies attended and the person was pronounced lifeless on the scene a short while later.
“Detectives from the Murder and Main Enquiry Workforce are investigating and inquiries stay ongoing on the scene.”
A Jail Service spokesperson added in a press release: “We’re conscious of an incident at HMP Wakefield which befell this morning. We’re unable to remark additional whereas the police examine.”
Watkins, 48, was jailed in December 2013 for 29 years after admitting to a string of intercourse offences – together with the tried rape of a fan’s child.
