A person and two kids had been killed in a record-breaking flash flood that swept via a village in New Mexico on Tuesday, native officers stated.
The three had been “swept downstream by the unprecedented floodwaters that struck” the Village of Ruidoso, village officers stated in an announcement. Greater than 50 others had been rescued by emergency crews, the village stated.

“Our hearts are damaged for the households who’ve misplaced their family members on this horrible tragedy,” Mayor Lynn Crawford stated in an announcement.
The Rio Ruidoso rose “to a record-breaking 20 toes — 5 toes larger than the earlier file,” officers stated.
“The flash flooding occurred Tuesday afternoon when heavy monsoonal rains fell on burn scar areas from final 12 months’s South Fork and Salt fires, creating harmful situations that led to fast water rise all through the village,” the village stated.

The Nationwide Climate Service in Albuquerque stated early information positioned the river’s crest at 20.24 toes on Tuesday afternoon, which might break the file of 15.86 toes that was set on July 20, 2024.
Officers stated a person in his 40s or 50s was killed, together with a 4-year-old lady and 7-year-old boy.
